What is URL encoding?
URL encoding, also called percent-encoding, replaces characters that are not safe in a web address with a percent sign and two hex digits. A space becomes %20 and a slash inside a value becomes %2F. It keeps links, query strings and form data from breaking.
Component or Full URL?
Use Component when you are encoding a single value, such as one query parameter. It encodes everything that has a special meaning in a URL. Use Full URL when you are encoding a whole link and want to keep its structure (the colon, slashes, question mark, ampersand and equals sign) intact.
How to decode
Paste a percent-encoded string on the left and press Decode. Tick the plus box if your data comes from an HTML form, where a plus sign stands for a space.
Does it support Unicode?
Yes. Characters outside plain English, such as Urdu, Arabic or emoji, are converted to UTF-8 first and then percent-encoded, and decoded back the same way.
Is my data safe?
Yes. Everything happens in your browser with JavaScript. Nothing is sent to a server.
